Fermilab Dipole Magnet Project
When Fermilab, a U.S. Department of Energy lab, approached Larsen about its Dipole Magnet for the Main Injector ring fro the Tevatron 1 mile diameter accelerator ring, Larsen knew that it was an evolutionary step for the company. Nothing like it had ever been tried before. Our designers met the task head-on and worked quickly to engineer a way to create the steel laminations that would be assembled into a metal core, which would house the magnet's copper coil. New equipment, new processes and new quality control procedures all followed and resulted in Larsen producing 25,000 to 30,000 parts a week, exceeding Fermilab's expectations.
